ABOUT ABOUT

The Tempest
by William Shakespeare

Directed by Robert Quillen Camp

In William Shakespeare’s classic romance, Prospero, an exiled magician betrayed by his brother, conjures a storm to shipwreck his brother and the Milanese court on the island where he now lives with his daughter, Miranda. Served by Ariel, a water spirit, and Caliban, a monster, Prospero uses his magic to foster his daughter’s romance with Ferdinand and regain his title as Duke of Milan.

Possibly Shakespeare’s last solo-authored work, The Tempest takes as its subject human creative force – its magic and its art – and explores the limits of the writer’s own powers. This production incorporates live video feeds and manipulated visuals inspired by the large canvases of Pop Art to consider the spells cast by the repetition of images and the possibilities and dangers of everyday magic.
